On a Roll

At least, I was on a roll. Through the holidays it’s easy to be in the baking spirit, and I was still feeling nostalgic when we returned from our trip home to Virginia for Christmas, so I made a big batch of my Nanny’s famous cinnamon rolls. They are based on of her Southern Refrigerator Rolls recipe. I’d never made them myself, but it was easy to figure out. Instead of cutting rolls, I turned the dough into a big rectangle and slathered it with butter, cinnamon, sugar and raisins pre-plumped in boiling water. Then I was ready to roll, slice and (after the second rise,) bake.

Drizzled with a simple glaze made of milk and powdered sugar (with a dash of lemon juice.)

As Max said, “They aren’t like Nanny’s, but I guess they’re alright.” I would not presume to dispute with him. They were quite good, but not the same.
